The second trap is skipping Marcala because it looks small on the map. Marcala is the economic centre of the highlands, has the only real cluster of decent guesthouses and restaurants, and holds the denomination-of-origin coffee that the department is known for internationally. People who base themselves in Comayagua and daytrip in miss the early-morning fincas and the cold, clear evenings at 1,300 m that are the actual reason to come.
